Course Objectives
In this course, you will experience writing through analyzing different kinds of texts, engaging in discussions with your peers and instructor, as well as revising your own drafts. Two types of essays will be introduced during this semester: process and comparison. You are expected to apply writing concepts and grammatical knowledge you have learned in the first year into the writing assignments in this course. In addition, you will be introduced to several types of corpora for self-editing. Training sessions will be provided in order to familiarize you how to use these tools. The goal of this course is to prepare you to become an independent writer who can identify weaknesses, respond to feedback, proofread and improve your compositions with your own stance.
Feedback giving and receiving is an important part of the learning process in this course. When you complete your drafts, you will receive feedback from your peers and instructor. You will earn credits for providing quality feedback for your peers. Guidelines and orientation for giving constructive feedback will be provided.
