The Sophomore Life

Time flies. Half of college life has passed. For me, the sophomore year is full of challenges and difficulties.

When I was a freshman, I decided to step out of my comfort zone. Thus, I plucked up the courage to join the presidential election of the student association of our department. Fortunately, I was elected. Although I felt nervous and a little regret, I still did my best to face the challenges. The first task was “Orientation Week”. Before orientation week, I had to distribute different jobs, contact with freshmen, and have some conference with student association. During this week, I had to help the freshmen to move everything into the dorm, introduce the department courses and campus facilities, and assist them to finish various admission procedures. Luckily, all of the tedious things finished perfectly.

The second task is “department cheerleading competition”. Departments cheerleading competition is an important event for freshmen. As a school cheerleading team member, I was responsible for being the coach in the competition. Cheerleading is a sport that needs lots of time to practice. Therefore, I spend lots of time teaching stunts. At that time, I only slept 3 to 4 hours per day and lasts for a month because of cheerleading practice. Although I didn’t sleep well and felt really tired, I still accomplished it.

The next is the major task in our department — winter camp. Initially, we encountered very serious problems in which no one wants to be a member of the camp. We’ve tried hard to convince lots of people to join it but in vain. Feeling extremely sad, I can’t concentrate on the study because I kept thinking about how to organize the camp. After a long period, it seemed that everything is getting on the right track. The winter camp was on the corner and we have been well-prepared to welcome the students who attend the camp. The panic of COVID-19 made us stop and cancel this activity. When I heard the news, I couldn’t help but keep crying. Although feeling sad and hopeless, I had to stay strong to solve many follow-up matters.

A lot of water has gone under the bridge. All of the difficulties have passed. With lots of difficulties, I have a lot of mental growth and transformation. The difficulties and challenges made me become a braver person and more endurable when stress comes.  I am also very proud of myself because I have passed through so many difficulties and grown a lot.
